Cala Graziosa: the cove in short
Cala Graziosa lies in the eastern sector of Favignana, on a sheltered, discreet stretch of coast that stays off the busiest tourist routes. It is a small rocky inlet, bounded by calcarenite walls and facing a sea that takes on intense colours on clear days.
There is no sandy shore: access to the water is over rock, with uneven surfaces and short drops. That makes it a destination for confident swimmers and for people who enjoy quiet spots, while it is impractical for families with small children or for anyone looking for comfort and services.
There are no structures, refreshment points, rescue services or shaded areas: water, a hat, sun protection and reef shoes are the minimum kit. Rubbish must be taken away, as there is no collection on site.
The sea is part of the Egadi Islands Marine Protected Area, and the clarity of the water makes the cove interesting for surface snorkelling along its side walls, where the rock descends towards the bottom creating crevices and passages.
The approach is from the secondary roads on the eastern side, with the final stretch on foot over natural ground. As this sector faces east, the cove is calmer when the wind comes from the opposite quadrants; with a swell running, entry into the water becomes awkward and should be judged carefully. A morning visit is recommended, when the light falls directly into the inlet.
