Old town and Piazza Madrice: in short
Favignana's old town lies a short distance from the harbour and remains the reference point for anyone arriving on the island. The streets are narrow and regular, built in local stone, and connect the harbour front with the inner part of the village.
Piazza Madrice is the central space of the old town: the mother church, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, faces onto it, and this is where island life and everyday encounters concentrate, especially in the evening.
Around the square and along the main streets you find the essential services for visitors — rentals, ticket offices, shops and cafes — and from here the roads lead out to the coves and the rest of the island.
The centre is also close to the other historic landmarks on the seafront, starting with the former Florio tuna factory and Palazzo Florio, both facing the harbour area.
